How do event or webinar registrations handle consent layering?
Consent layering separates different communication types at the point of registration. When someone signs up for a webinar, they're consenting to receive information about that specific event. That consent doesn't automatically extend to your newsletter, promotional emails, or partner communications.
Best practice: present distinct, unchecked checkboxes for each consent type. One for event-related communications (confirmations, reminders, recordings). Another for ongoing marketing. A third if sponsors or partners will contact them. Each should clearly describe what the subscriber is agreeing to receive.
Under GDPR, consent must be specific, informed, and freely given. Bundling event registration with marketing opt-in violates these principles. The registration should complete successfully even if someone declines marketing consent.
One ticket, one voyage. Don't assume that boarding the ship for one trip means they've signed up for the entire fleet.
