What is a DKIM selector and how is it chosen?

The selector is chosen by your sending system or ESP. Each provider uses its own naming conventions.

You publish the public key at:

selector.domain.com

under the path:

selector.\_domainkey.domain.com

It is like telling the harbor inspector which drawer in the registry contains the official seal.
