What is an action-based trigger?

An action-based trigger fires email automation immediately (or shortly after) a user completes a specific action:

Commerce actions: Purchase completed, item added to cart, wishlist updated.

Account actions: Signup completed, profile updated, password changed.

Content actions: Ebook downloaded, video watched, form submitted.

Engagement actions: Email clicked, link visited, survey completed.

Action-based triggers create responsive communication that acknowledges what the user just did. They feel immediate and relevant because they directly follow user initiative.

These triggers require event tracking that captures the action and notifies the automation system in real-time or near-real-time.

Action-based triggers say "we noticed what you did." They create dialogue rather than monologue.
