How does MPP affect location tracking?

MPP completely breaks IP-based location tracking for Apple Mail users. All image requests, including tracking pixels, are routed through Apple's proxy servers. Your email platform sees Apple's IP addresses, not the recipient's actual location.

Before MPP, senders could infer approximate location from the IP address recorded at open time. This enabled geo-targeted content, local event promotions, and timezone-based send optimization. That data is now unavailable for a significant portion of subscribers.

Workarounds exist but require explicit data collection. Ask subscribers for their location or timezone during signup. Use click-based tracking (which still captures IP at click time, outside of MPP's scope). Leverage purchase or account data if available.

The compass spins for those sailing under Apple's flag. You'll need other navigational tools to chart their position.
