What information must be included in emails under CASL?
CASL requires clear sender identification: the name of the person or organization sending the message (and the name of the party on whose behalf it's sent, if different). This isn't just a From address-recipients must be able to identify who is contacting them and why without confusion.
Contact information must be provided that remains valid for at least 60 days after the message is sent. This includes either a mailing address and one of: telephone number, email address, or web address. The contact information must enable recipients to reach you. It ucannot be a dead end or intentionally difficult to use.
An unsubscribe mechanism must be clearly and prominently displayed, enabling recipients to opt out easily. The mechanism must work for at least 60 days after sending, and requests must be honored within 10 business days. Unlike CAN-SPAM, CASL prohibits charging fees or requiring information beyond email address and unsubscribe preference. CASL's identification and contact requirements ensure accountability-recipients should know exactly who's emailing them and how to stop it.
