Can SPF and DKIM replace each other?

Myth: False. SPF and DKIM serve different purposes and cannot replace each other. SPF verifies authorized sending IPs. DKIM verifies message integrity through cryptographic signing. Both are needed.

SPF breaks during forwarding when IPs change. DKIM survives forwarding but can break if content is modified. Having both provides redundancy and different verification dimensions.

DMARC requires either SPF or DKIM alignment to pass, but best practice is implementing both. This provides maximum resilience against various mail routing scenarios.
