Is DNS propagation instant?

Myth: False. DNS propagation is not instant. Changes can take hours to days to propagate globally as different DNS servers update their cached records.

TTL (Time To Live) settings affect propagation speed. Lower TTLs speed updates but increase DNS load. Typical propagation takes 24 to 48 hours for complete global coverage.

Plan DNS changes with propagation time in mind. Do not expect immediate effect from authentication changes. Allow adequate time before testing or assuming changes are active.
