How do ESPs monitor IP health?

ESPs run continuous monitoring across their IP infrastructure. Key signals include bounce rates (especially hard bounces), spam complaint rates from feedback loops, blocklist appearances, and delivery success rates to major mailbox providers.

They integrate with postmaster tools from Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo to access reputation scores and delivery data. Automated systems flag IPs showing degradation, triggering alerts or automatic remediation like traffic throttling.

For shared pools, ESPs monitor individual sender metrics and can isolate or remove senders damaging pool health. For dedicated IPs, they typically alert the account holder and provide guidance on corrective action.
