What happens if I exceed DNS limits?
SPF lookup limit exceeded:
- Result: permerror
- DMARC treats as SPF fail
- Receivers may reject or spam mail
- All mail from domain affected
TXT record too long:
- Provider may truncate (silently breaking the record)
- Provider may reject the record entirely
- Partial data causes parsing errors
UDP response overflow:
- Response falls back to TCP
- Some poorly configured resolvers fail
- Slightly slower lookups
Monitor SPF lookup count whenever adding sending services. Test authentication after any DNS changes.
Overloaded paperwork causes processing failure. The entire verification cannot complete.
