Wrong A Record? Fix It Fast — Misconfigured DNS breaks delivery. We'll help diagnose. Troubleshoot Now →

What happens when an A record points to the wrong IP?

Incorrect A records cause various problems:

Connection failures: The IP does not respond or rejects connections. Services appear down.

Wrong server: Connections reach an unintended server. Could be another customer on shared hosting or a defunct system.

Certificate errors: TLS certificates do not match the hostname. Secure connections fail.

Email impact: If your MX points to mail.tidalmail.com, and that hostname's A record is wrong, mail delivery fails completely.

  • Security risk: Wrong IPs could lead to malicious servers intercepting traffic.
  • Verify A records after any change. Monitor for unexpected connection failures.
  • Wrong coordinates send ships to the wrong port or into open water.
