How do CNAMEs relate to link tracking?

Link tracking uses CNAMEs for branding:

How it works:

You create: click.tidalmail.com CNAME tracking.esp.com

Links in your emails use click.tidalmail.com

Recipients click and connect to tracking.esp.com (via CNAME resolution)

ESP logs the click and redirects to the actual destination

Benefits:

Links show your domain, building trust

Domain reputation for links stays with you

Avoids shared tracking domain reputation issues

Requirements: SSL certificate for your tracking domain (usually handled by ESP).

Your branded dock sign, but the dock is actually operated by your shipping partner.
