How does MX misconfiguration affect inbound mail?

MX misconfigurations cause various inbound mail problems:

Wrong server: Mail routes to an old or incorrect server. Messages may be lost or rejected.

Unreachable server: If the MX target is down, senders queue and retry. Eventually mail bounces.

Missing records: Mail cannot be delivered at all.

Priority confusion: If priorities are wrong, mail may route to backup servers unnecessarily.

Typos: A single character error in the hostname causes complete delivery failure.

Verify MX records after any change. Monitor for unexpected bounces that might indicate MX problems.

Wrong docking coordinates send cargo to abandoned piers or into the sea.
