DNS Records Demystified — Verify your TXT, MX, and CNAME records are configured right. Validate DNS →

What are TXT, MX, CNAME, and A records?

Four fundamental DNS record types:

TXT (Text) records: Store arbitrary text. Used for SPF, DKIM public keys, DMARC policies, and domain verification.

MX (Mail Exchange) records: Specify which servers accept mail for your domain and their priority order.

CNAME (Canonical Name) records: Create aliases pointing one hostname to another. Often used for tracking domains.

A (Address) records: Map a hostname to an IPv4 address. Tell browsers and other clients where to connect.

For email, TXT and MX are most critical. CNAME matters for tracking domains. A records matter for webmail and server connectivity.

Different forms in the ship registry: manifest (TXT), docking assignment (MX), alias (CNAME), and coordinates (A).
