How does DKIM survive forwarding?

DKIM survives forwarding only when the forwarder performs simple forwarding. This changes only the SMTP envelope without touching the message headers or body. Since the signed parts remain unchanged the DKIM signature stays valid.

If the forwarder re mails the message by modifying headers adding subject tags or footers the signature breaks.
