What’s the difference between hard suppression and temporary quarantine?

Hard suppression vs temporary hold serve different purposes:

Hard suppression:

Permanent exclusion from sending. Based on definitive failure (user not found). No automatic expiration. Requires explicit removal to unsuppress.

Temporary hold:

Pauses sending to address. Based on uncertain or recoverable situation. May have automatic expiration. Used for investigation period.

When to use each:

Hard suppression: Hard bounces, permanent policy rejections. Temporary hold: Repeated soft bounces, suspicious patterns, pending verification.

Implementation:

Separate lists or status flags. Clear criteria for each. Defined review/expiration process for holds.

Hard suppression is permanent retirement. Temporary hold is bench time. Different situations call for different responses.
