What is email throttling?

Email throttling is when a mailbox provider intentionally slows down how fast it accepts messages from your domain or IP. The messages are not rejected they are delayed.

This happens when the provider wants to control traffic or evaluate whether the sender is behaving safely.

It is like a harbor reducing how many ships can enter at once so they can manage the flow safely.
