What is the “CC” field?

The CC field publicly lists additional recipients. Everyone in To and everyone in CC can see each other.

Behind the scenes the server sends a separate RCPT TO for every address in To and CC. So technically it is the same as To. The difference is social. Not technical.

It is the open deck announcement. Everyone can see who else heard the message.
