What is a bounce server?

A bounce server is the system that receives and processes Non Delivery Reports. It classifies failed messages into soft, hard, or policy failures and sends structured results back to the sending platform. It is the recorder on shore listing which ships were denied entry and why.

Technically this is a bounce processor. Without it, an ESP would continue sending to dead addresses which would quickly destroy IP reputation and damage deliverability for every client.
