What is queue management?

Queue management is how an MTA organizes, stores, and processes outbound messages. Messages waiting for retry, messages waiting for available connections, and deferred messages all reside in various internal queues.

Well tuned queues prevent bottlenecks and ensure that high priority traffic or time sensitive mail moves efficiently. Think of it as the harbor master coordinating which ships leave, which wait, and which require repairs before sailing.
