What happens to an email marked as spam?
When an email is marked as spam, it is moved to the spam or junk folder, where it remains isolated from regular inbox messages. Some systems delete spam automatically after a set period.
Behind the scenes, the message still exists on the server and can influence sender reputation if many users mark similar messages as unwanted.
It is similar to cargo being quarantined in a restricted dock until it can be inspected or discarded.
