What is quarantine?

Quarantine is a secure area where suspicious or potentially harmful messages are held instead of being delivered to the user's inbox.

In practice, this is used by email gateways and corporate security systems to protect users from phishing, malware, or policy violations while giving administrators time to review messages.

Think of it as a locked storage area at the port where questionable cargo is kept until the crew decides whether to destroy it or release it.
