Is user consent universal?
Consent obtained in one jurisdiction doesn't automatically apply everywhere. Like port clearance requiring paperwork for each country, consent requirements vary by regulation and sometimes must be obtained separately.
**GDPR** consent must be freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous. **CAN-SPAM** allows **implied consent** from business relationships. Canada's **CASL** requires express consent with detailed records. Different standards don't automatically satisfy each other.
Geographic targeting helps: apply the strictest standard (usually **GDPR**) globally, or implement jurisdiction-specific consent flows. One well-documented consent process meeting **GDPR** standards typically satisfies other frameworks, but **CASL**'s specificity requirements may need additional elements.
