What is a “global suppression” practice?
Global suppression is the practice of maintaining a master suppression list that applies across all sending platforms and campaigns. Regardless of which system sends email, globally suppressed addresses never receive messages.
This prevents situations where someone unsubscribes from one platform but continues receiving mail from another system using the same data. Global suppression ensures consistent honoring of opt outs and complaint suppressions.
Implementation requires synchronization between systems. All sending platforms must check against the global suppression list before sending. Adding addresses should propagate immediately across systems. This infrastructure investment is essential for organizations using multiple ESPs or sending systems.
