What is “relay denied”?

Relay denied indicates that the sending server attempted to deliver mail without proper authentication or authorization. It is often triggered when the sending server’s IP is not included in the domain’s SPF record or when DKIM fails causing the server to treat the message as untrusted. It often appears when servers are misconfigured.
