How do I suppress Klaviyo profiles in bulk?
Still have a question, spotted an error, or have a better explanation or a source we should cite?
Suppressing a profile in Klaviyo keeps it in your account but stops it getting email marketing. It is how you stop emailing people without deleting them, and it takes them off your email plan's count.
Say you have a segment of people who have not opened in a year. You ran a last try at winning them back. A few came back. The rest stayed silent. Now you want them off the plan without losing who they were.
The steps:
- Go to Audience, then Lists & segments.
- Next to the list or segment, open the action menu and choose Suppress current members.
- Review the confirmation and confirm.
Only the Owner, Admin and Manager roles can suppress profiles.
What it changes, and what it does not. Consent status stays the same. A subscribed profile stays subscribed, it just can't get email marketing. And a suppression is a snapshot of who is in the group that day. People who join the segment later are not suppressed, so if it keeps filling up, suppress it again later.
Three ways a suppression comes undone, or does not save money:
- Unsuppressing by mistake. Once a manually suppressed profile is unsuppressed, you can't suppress it by hand again until 90 days after the first suppression. Until then, it can stay on your bill.
- A new sign-up or a consented import. When someone resubscribes, through a sign-up form or a list uploaded with consent, their manual suppression and that list's suppressions are lifted. Hard bounce suppressions stay.
- Another Klaviyo product. Advanced KDP bills on total profiles, suppressed ones included. If you pay for it, suppressing does not lower that bill.
Why suppress and not bulk delete? Klaviyo offers both. A bulk delete can't be undone, and it takes each profile's status with it, including the record that says do not email. Anyone who signs up again arrives as a new profile, with nothing to say they once left. Suppress, and if you ever do delete, keep your own do-not-email record first. More on what a delete does.
Suppressing lowers your count, not your plan. Picking the lower plan is a separate step.

I use Klaviyo on the [plan name] plan. I want to suppress a segment of about [number] profiles who have not opened or clicked in [number] months. I [do or do not] also pay for Advanced KDP. Walk me through suppressing them safely, how to stop them coming back by mistake, and when to pick the lower plan.Sources. Klaviyo's own help centre, read 17 Oct 2026, re-checked 23 Oct 2026. - Understanding active profile management in Klaviyo (updated 30 Mar 2026): "Navigate to Audience > Lists & segments." "Next to the list or segment you'd like to suppress, open the action menu and select Suppress current members." "The Owner, Admin, and Manager user roles can suppress profiles." "Manually suppressing a profile does not change their consent status. For example, a Subscribed profile remains Subscribed, but is unable to receive email marketing." "This action applies to the current members included in your selection, and does not impact profiles that join after."
- How to manage email suppressions and delete profiles in bulk (updated 11 Mar 2026): "Once a profile is manually suppressed, if that same profile becomes unsuppressed, it cannot be manually suppressed again until 90 days after the previous suppression." Klaviyo "gives you the option to either delete profiles from your account entirely, or suppress them". A bulk delete "cannot be undone", and "a person can enter your Klaviyo account as a new profile if they engage with your website again (e.g., submitting a sign-up form)."
- Understanding suppressed email profiles (updated 30 Mar 2026): "When a profile resubscribes (e.g., via a list uploaded with consent or by filling out a signup form), their global manual suppression and suppressions for the list they subscribe to are lifted." Hard bounce suppressions "are not removed by subscribe actions in order to protect your sender reputation." "Advanced KDP billing is based on total profiles, including suppressed profiles."
