What is fatigue scoring?
Fatigue scoring is a system that tracks declining engagement patterns to detect when a subscriber is becoming overwhelmed or disinterested due to email frequency. It assigns a score based on behavior such as consecutive unopened emails, reduced click rates, or increased time between interactions.
The score increases when negative signals accumulate and decreases when the subscriber engages. Once a subscriber crosses a fatigue threshold, you reduce their send frequency, pause certain email types, or move them into a re engagement campaign. This prevents the subscriber from unsubscribing or marking your emails as spam.
Fatigue scoring can be simple such as flagging anyone who has not opened your last five emails or complex such as using machine learning models that weigh recency, frequency, and engagement depth. The goal is to intervene before the relationship breaks. Fatigue scoring is like noticing when your crew stops responding to orders and giving them rest before mutiny.
