Can blocklisting be permanent?
Most blocklist listings are resolvable with proper remediation. However, some cases result in permanent or near-permanent designation.
Spamhaus ROKSO (Register of Known Spam Operations) lists professional spam gangs who are permanently blocked. Making this list requires sustained, deliberate spam activity. It is essentially a permanent ban.
Repeat offenders who fix problems only to reoffend may face increasingly difficult delisting requirements. Eventually, operators may refuse to consider further requests.
Some listings become effectively permanent because the sender abandons the IP or domain rather than completing remediation. The listing remains indefinitely.
For legitimate senders who made honest mistakes, permanent listing is extremely rare. Genuine reform and professional engagement with the delisting process almost always succeed eventually.
Permanent exile is reserved for those who refuse to reform. For those who genuinely change, the harbor eventually reopens.
