What is fingerprint matching and why does it matter?

Fingerprint matching creates signatures of message content that allow filters to identify variations of the same template. Even if details change, the underlying pattern is recognized.

When spam campaigns launch, early recipients report them. Filters create fingerprints from these reports. Later messages matching the fingerprint are caught even with personalization or modified text.

This matters for legitimate senders because templates resembling spam fingerprints face filtering. If your template is similar to one used in a spam campaign, you may be caught despite being legitimate.

Using unique, custom templates reduces fingerprint collision risk. Avoiding common spam template structures and writing distinctive content helps differentiate your mail.

Fingerprinting catches ships that match wanted patterns. Distinctive vessels are less likely to be confused with known threats.
