How to migrate DNS between providers without downtime?
Zero-downtime DNS migration:
Preparation (days before):
Lower TTL to 300-600 seconds on all records
Wait for old TTL to expire
Document all existing records
Setup:
Create zone at new DNS provider
Copy all records exactly
Verify records match using both providers' direct queries
Cutover:
Change nameservers at registrar
Both old and new providers serve records during transition
Monitor for any service disruptions
Post-migration:
Verify all records via external tools
Raise TTL back to normal values
Decommission old DNS zone after full propagation
Open the new harbor office before closing the old one. Run parallel operations during transition.
