What are behavioral email triggers?

Behavioral email triggers are automations that fire based on specific actions (or inactions) customers take across your digital touchpoints.

Unlike time-based automation that sends on schedules, behavioral triggers respond to what customers do:

Positive behaviors: Visiting specific pages, viewing products, adding to cart, making purchases, clicking links, downloading content.

Absence of behavior: Not opening emails, not visiting the site, not purchasing after a certain period, cart abandonment.

Behavioral triggers create relevant, timely communication because they respond to demonstrated interest or concern.

They require tracking infrastructure that captures behavior and connects it to email addresses, typically through cookies, login sessions, or pixel tracking.

Behavioral triggers turn customer actions into conversations. They let you respond to what customers show you, not just what you assume.
