What’s the difference between fixed delays and smart delays?
Fixed delays wait a predetermined time before the next action:
"Wait 3 days, then send email 2." The delay is the same for everyone regardless of behavior, engagement, or circumstances.
Smart delays adapt timing based on context:
Behavior-based: "Wait until recipient opens previous email, then send follow-up." Time-zone adjusted: "Wait until 10am in recipient's local time zone." Engagement-optimized: "Wait until recipient's historical best engagement window." Condition-based: "Wait until data field updates, then proceed."
When to use each:
Fixed delays for simple, consistent sequences where timing relative to the trigger matters. Smart delays when individual circumstances should influence timing or when engagement optimization is valuable.
Fixed delays are predictable and simple. Smart delays are responsive and complex. Choose based on whether adaptation adds value.
