What is plain-text copywriting vs HTML design copywriting?

Plain-text copywriting relies entirely on words-no images, no formatting beyond line breaks and basic characters. Every piece of information must be conveyed through text alone. It forces clarity and often feels more personal, like a message from a friend.

HTML design copywriting works with visual elements. The ucopy must complement images, work within layout constraints, and guide attention alongside design hierarchy. Headlines need to work as visual anchors. Body copy must be scannable around images and buttons.

Different canvases demand different approaches. Plain-text emails need stronger, more complete copy because there's nothing else. HTML emails allow shorter copy when images carry meaning, but ensure your message survives with images blocked. Write plain-text versions of HTML emails that stand alone; many recipients prefer or default to them. Don't just strip HTML and call it done.
