What is inclusive language and why does it matter?
Inclusive language avoids expressions that exclude, marginalize, or offend groups of people. It means being thoughtful about assumptions embedded in word choices-gendered terms, cultural references, ability-based metaphors, and outdated expressions.
Examples: \"Hey guys\" → \"Hey everyone\" or \"Hey team.\" \"Manpower\" → \"Workforce.\" \"Crazy deal\" → \"Amazing deal.\" \"Blind to the facts\" → \"Unaware of the facts.\" Not every term is equally weighted, but patterns matter. If your copy consistently excludes certain groups, some recipients will notice and disengage.
Inclusive language expands your audience. It's not political correctness-it's market awareness. Why alienate potential customers with careless phrasing? The recipient who feels excluded by your language won't complain; they'll just unsubscribe. You'll never know why. Inclusive writing is clear writing that welcomes everyone. It costs nothing and risks nothing to adopt.
