What are safe font choices for email?
Web-safe fonts are fonts installed by default on most operating systems, guaranteeing consistent rendering regardless of email client or device. These are your reliable choices when design consistency matters.
Safe font families: Sans-serif: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS. Serif: Georgia, Times New Roman, Palatino. Monospace: Courier New, Lucida Console. These render predictably across Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android without requiring font loading.
Safe doesn't mean boring. Arial and Georgia serve most email purposes well. You can specify web fonts as primary with safe fonts as fallbacks (font-family: 'Open Sans', Arial, sans-serif). Recipients with the web font see it; others get the fallback. Safe fonts ensure your message is always readable, even if not precisely branded.
