What is CC (Carbon Copy) in email?

CC means Carbon Copy. This comes straight from the typewriter era. A sheet of carbon paper was placed between two pages so that everything typed on the top one was copied to the bottom one.

In email. CC means everyone can see who else got the message. It is the open deck announcement so every officer knows who is in the loop.
