What is a security vendor?

A security vendor provides tools that protect messaging systems from malware, phishing, data leaks, and compromised accounts. These include SEGs, antivirus engines, URL scanners, and global threat intelligence networks. Major players include Proofpoint, Mimecast, and Cisco. They are the armored escorts patrolling the waters around your fleet. In many companies, the SEG is the only public facing MX, forcing all mail through this fortified harbor gate.
