Why is email used for system notifications and logs?

Because it is asynchronous, universal, and reliable.

Servers use email to report tasks, alerts, and errors, even when no one is awake to read them.

In Linux systems, a scheduled process called a cron job sends an email summary when it completes its task. It's the automated lighthouse of the server world — sending out its beam of updates whether anyone is watching or not.
