Is deliverability mostly about luck?
Deliverability is highly predictable and controllable. Attributing results to luck reflects misunderstanding of the systems involved. Like navigation, outcomes follow from charted courses and proper practices, not fortune.
Controllable factors: authentication setup, list quality, engagement rates, sending patterns, complaint rates, infrastructure health, and content practices. Senders who master these consistently achieve strong deliverability. Those who ignore them consistently struggle.
What feels like luck: algorithm changes affecting everyone, temporary filter quirks, or unexplained variations during transitions. But even these respond to fundamentals. Strong senders weather algorithm changes; weak senders blame luck. Build on solid practices and "luck" takes care of itself.
