Are there new authentication standards being developed?

New authentication standards in development include BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) for visual brand verification, ARC (Authenticated Received Chain) for preserving authentication through forwarding, and MTA-STS for enforcing TLS encryption.

BIMI displays verified brand logos in email interfaces when strong DMARC enforcement is in place. This creates visual trust indicators while incentivizing DMARC adoption. Major providers are implementing BIMI support progressively.

ARC solves authentication breaking during legitimate forwarding by creating a chain of custody. MTA-STS prevents encryption downgrade attacks. These standards address gaps in current authentication while building toward more comprehensive email security infrastructure.
