How do deferred emails affect delivery metrics?

A deferral happens when the mailbox provider tells your server to try again later. The message enters the retry schedule. If the retries fail after a certain period, the message becomes a soft bounce.

Deferrals do not count as delivered or bounced until the final status is known.
