How do I know if I've hit a spam trap?
Direct indicators:
- Microsoft SNDS shows trap hit data
- Blocklist listing citing trap hits
- Feedback from postmaster contact
Indirect indicators:
- Sudden reputation drop without clear cause
- Blocklist listing after specific campaign
- Correlation with sending to old or questionable list
Cannot identify specific addresses:
- Traps are deliberately hidden
- No one will tell you which addresses
- Must clean entire suspect segments
Investigation:
- What list or segment was sent just before issues?
- Was there a new list source?
- Were old addresses reactivated?
- Hitting a trap triggers alarms but does not reveal which cargo caused it.
