How do I know if I've hit a spam trap?

Direct indicators:

• Microsoft SNDS shows trap hit data
• Blocklist listing citing trap hits
• Feedback from postmaster contact

Indirect indicators:

• Sudden reputation drop without clear cause
• Blocklist listing after specific campaign
• Correlation with sending to old or questionable list

Cannot identify specific addresses:

• Traps are deliberately hidden
• No one will tell you which addresses
• Must clean entire suspect segments

Investigation:

• What list or segment was sent just before issues?
• Was there a new list source?
• Were old addresses reactivated?
• Hitting a trap triggers alarms but does not reveal which cargo caused it.
