Is DNS setup “one and done”?

Myth: Set up DNS records once and never touch them again.

Reality: DNS requires ongoing attention.

What changes:

Adding or removing sending services (SPF updates)

DKIM key rotation (security best practice)

Policy progression (DMARC none → quarantine → reject)

Provider IP changes (flattened SPF goes stale)

Service migrations (MX changes)

Maintenance activities:

Quarterly review of authentication records

Monitor DMARC reports for issues

Update when adding new email services

Verify after any infrastructure changes

Ship registrations require regular renewal and updates. The registry is not a set-and-forget system.
