What is a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC)?

A Verified Mark Certificate is a digital certificate similar to an SSL or TLS certificate and issued by an approved Certificate Authority such as Entrust or DigiCert. It confirms that the organization is the legal owner of a registered trademark for the logo. It is required by providers such as Gmail.com.

The certificate links the brand identity to the domain much like an official maritime registry certifies a ship’s ownership.
