Why Gmail and Yahoo require DMARC alignment for bulk senders?
The core motivation is to combat phishing and brand impersonation. For decades, mailbox providers fought spam alone. Attackers could easily spoof a trusted brand in the `From:` header, and the receiver's only defense was guessing.
The 2024 rules fundamentally shift this dynamic. By requiring DMARC alignment, Gmail and Yahoo are forcing bulk senders (the largest fleets on the sea) to become accountable for their own identity.
It is no longer the harbor's job to guess if a ship is a pirate flying a false flag. It is now the fleet's job to provide a verifiable, authenticated flag (DMARC) that proves its identity. This policy creates a verifiable "chain of custody" for email, making it far more difficult for attackers to impersonate brands and protecting the entire ecosystem.
