What’s the difference between SRS0 and SRS1 formats?

SRS0 is the initial and more complex rewrite format used on the first forwarding hop. SRS1 is a shorter format used on subsequent hops to prevent the Return Path from growing too long which could break some mail servers. Each step preserves forwarding history without creating excessively long addresses.
