Do blocklists always send bounce messages?
Myth: Blocklist hits always generate bounces.
Reality: Blocking can be silent:
SMTP-level blocking:
Rejection during connection. Clear bounce with blocklist reference. Sender knows immediately.
Post-acceptance filtering:
Message accepted (no bounce). Later filtered based on blocklist. Silently delivered to spam. Sender has no indication.
Hybrid approaches:
Some providers use blocklists as scoring factor. Not immediate rejection, but increased suspicion. May affect placement, not delivery.
Detection methods:
Inbox placement testing. Seed list monitoring. Engagement rate analysis. Reputation tool checking.
Blocklist impact is not always visible. Silent filtering is more common than explicit rejection.
