What is the “Return-Path” header?

The Return Path header shows the address where bounces and delivery failures should be sent. It is added by the receiving server based on the MAIL FROM command that happened during SMTP.

This is the envelope sender. This is the address that SPF actually checks. It is the official harbor post office box where undeliverable messages are delivered.
