How has email evolved over time?
Email began as a simple message exchange system for researchers and government projects. Over decades, it transformed into a cornerstone of communication for business and personal life.
It evolved from text only terminals to HTML rich messages, from command line programs to cloud based inboxes, and from unprotected transfers to encrypted, authenticated exchanges.
Like maritime trade, email's evolution was driven by better routes, safer transport, and smarter navigation systems. Each technological wave, such as SMTP, MIME, TLS, and DMARC, made it faster, safer, and more reliable.
It also became the first "killer app" of the ARPANET, the feature that made the network indispensable to its users.
