How do scammers register visually similar domains (homoglyphs)?
Homoglyphs are characters that look similar: letter O and number 0, letter l and number 1, Latin and Cyrillic characters that appear identical. Attackers use these to create deceptive domains.
International domain names (IDN) enable Unicode characters, expanding homoglyph possibilities. Cyrillic "а" looks identical to Latin "a" but is a different character. Domains can mix scripts to create perfect visual matches.
Registration is straightforward: attackers simply register available domains using confusable characters. Registrars don't universally block homoglyph registrations. Proactive defense requires monitoring for registrations resembling your brand and taking action when found.
